Remembering What Isn’t To Be

Guest Post by Katie McCabe

This is hard. I’m struggling to find the words I want to say.

In July, after reading about Samuel and Takeimi, I couldn’t stop thinking about them. So I googled a few things and found out that Samuel and Takeimi are not alone. One story led to another. More than five thousand teenagers die every year because of alcohol in some way. That’s too many.

I felt like I needed to do something because thinking about Samuel and Takeimi would bring me to tears. It’s just so sad. Sarah told me it’s because Daddy’s death is still so close to me. I miss him so much it hurts, but my tears were for Takeimi and Samuel and all the others for the things that will never be, the things they’ll never get to do.

They only live on in memories. I never knew any of them personally, but through reading their stories, I feel like I carry a little piece of them in me. I have to stop now, or I’ll start bawling again. Please watch the video and remember.

  1. So so sad, what an inspiration to see such a young activist get involved! Nice job Katie!!

  2. I agree with the above comments. This is very sad but at the same time it is important to remember all of these people. I am so very lucky in the fact that I have no known anyone who has passed in an alcohol-related accident but that doesn’t mean I don’t hurt for the families that must go through that. It is just so unimaginable. Great post!

  3. I’d like to share a comment which was left on the YouTube page for Jason Wren:

Arapahoe HS alumni’s misses you Jason. Till this very day, I still regret that you were one of the people that didn’t sign my yearbook in your Senior year 🙁 I think that hug at your graduation was worth it. Not a day goes by, we miss you, Vickie and your mom so much. Once a warrior, always a warrior. L.<3.V.E.
